Mounting,
matting and framing
I dry
mount the photographic prints onto an acid-free board and
then use a white 6 ply mat board, which gives a contemporary
appearnace. Double mats look great on many photographs; for
these I normally use a top white mat and then pick an inner
mat that works well with the photograph. Triple mats also
look great, for these I normally use a top white mat, middle
white mat with a 1/2" revel showing, and then pick an
inner mat color that work well with the photograph. (See examples
below)
All photographs
should be framed using at least one conservation quality mat
board. This will ensure that the photo emulsion does not touch
the glass. If it does, the temperature and humidity changes
within your home or work area may cause it to stick to the
glass. This can potentially ruin the photograph.
For glass
on all photographs I use Conservation Clear Glass that has
a 97% UV optical coating. If the photograph will be exposed
to continuous direct sunlight or fluorescent light I would
recommend using Museum Glass. Museum glass appears as if there
is no glass at all.
For picture
framing on all photographs I typically use a black or espresso
brown molding. Depending on the size of the finished matted
photograph I use a 1" - 2" wide frame.
For custom
picture framing information, please contact me and we can
discuss the details for individual photographs.
